The Archivists Round Table of Metropolitan New York, Inc. (A.R.T.), in partnership with the Association of Teachers of Social Studies/United Federation of Teachers and the New York University Archives, announces the fourth annual K-12 Archives Education Institute (AEI). This event is part of New York Archives Week.

This program is intended to bring together 35 local K-12 teachers, archivists, librarians, and museum educators to discuss strategies for teaching with primary source materials on the topic of food and foodways. The Institute is free, and a light breakfast and lunch will be provided for all participants.

The Institute will begin with a morning panel comprised of educators and archivists who regularly teach with primary source materials.

After lunch, local archivists with collections that relate to the Institute's theme will present materials from their collections to the group. The Institute will culminate in a collaborative exercise to develop K-12 curriculum activities utilizing the materials presented that address Common Core Standards.

At the conclusion of the event, certificates will be awarded to participants. These certificates will be eligible for Archival Recertification Credits (ARCs) for members of the Academy of Certified Archivists and may be eligible for professional development hours for teachers and educators.

All teachers and educators, including student teachers, as well as archivists, librarians, and museum professionals in the New York area may apply to the program. All selected applicants will be notified by October 4, 2013.

All press inquiries and other questions may be directed to: Janet Bunde, Director of the Advocacy and Outreach Committee, community@nycarchivists.org or Mike Montalbano, Chair of the Outreach Committee, outreach@nycarchivists.org.
