Overview: David Webb is seeking an Archivist to work under the Head of Archives and Brand Heritage. We are one of the world's most exclusive fine jewelry houses, based (and manufactured) in New York. Significant archival or museum cataloging experience is required, with solid digital/scanning capability along with art handling, writing, speaking, and storytelling. Photography capability is a strong plus.

Known for creating exquisitely crafted, bold and unique jewelry, David Webb is widely considered one of the most influential designers of the 20th century.

We are headquartered in an historic Neo-Classical building on Madison Avenue in New York’s Upper East Side. 30 long-tenured master jewelers continue many of David Webb’s own traditions, hand-crafting each piece in a workshop directly above the Company’s flagship boutique. In addition to its New York City flagship, David Webb has locations in Beverly Hills, Montecito, and the Middle East, and is sold through an exclusive network of department and specialty stores nationwide.

Position Overview: The Archivist will be responsible for maintaining and caretaking of the archival collections of David Webb under the management of the Head of Archives, as well as supporting all extraneous projects the department takes on. The areas of responsibility (ideally) will include:

Digital asset management:

Comprehensive overview of all digital and physical assets within the David Webb archive

Creation of and maintenance of finding aids, taxonomy development, controlled vocabularies, metadata governance, all to support seamless asset discovery and brand consistency

Managing large-scale digitizations and scanning of records, as well as managing an outside vendor on select digitization projects

Project based support:

Gathering of assets, writing captions, sourcing information on archival designs for upcoming brand activations, exhibitions, and publications

Archival photography

Library research for editorial records not yet acquired by the archive

Authentication research when necessary

Brand History support:

Learning to give brand standard talks, tours, and public information when necessary, in the absence of the Head of Archives & Brand Heritage

Will work closely with the Marketing department of the business on brand narratives, and collaborate with creative, heritage, and marketing strategy teams to ensure elevated storytelling, premium campaign development, and advanced digital innovation

We’re a lean team and this is a new role; you'll need to be extremely detail oriented to a fault, self-sufficient, a great public speaker, and confident with 20th/21st Century cultural history. Candidates must have at least 5 years of experience in a related field, jewelry / decorative arts experience a plus.

You are / have ...

At least 5 years' of relevant experience in relevant work, in a museum or an archive. Jewelry knowledge is a plus

Solid cataloging skills, ideally with experience and comfort in asset management, and the creation of finding aids

Experience managing research and writing for given projects based on historic records, and able to effectively speak on the research you’ve done to a group. A curatorial mind is a plus here.

Entrepreneurial, and able to work as a one-person army when required; confident enough to operate transparently, and take and integrate feedback effectively

Analytical and effective with search terms and metadata

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven experience creating copy and collateral for archival use

The position will be based in our corporate headquarters on the Upper East Side of New York. This is not a remote role, and relocation candidates will not be considered.
