Blank Forms Archive Consultant (3-Month Contract)
Blank Forms is seeking an experienced archivist for a three-month position to collaborate with our in-house team on organizing and expanding our archival collections. These include our institutional archive as well as the archives of Catherine Christer Hennix, Maryanne Amacher, and others. This role involves physical cataloging, organizing, and digitizing papers and audio materials, as well as developing systems for digital asset management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in contemporary American and European experimental music and visual art, and hold a degree in Library Science, Information Science, Art History, or a related field—or demonstrate equivalent experience and expertise. The archivist will work closely with the Executive & Artistic Director to help shape the long-term structure and accessibility of our archival holdings.
This is a three month position, requiring approximately 24-28 hours per week that will take place over the course of June through the end of December 2025. The rate is $30–$35/hour.
RESPONSIBILITIES
*Hands-on processing, arrangement, and description of materials
*Develop and implement Blank Forms’ internal digital asset management system, ensuring long-term accessibility, organization, and preservation of digital materials
*Oversee scanning and digitization of a range of media formats as needed, including audio cassettes, DATs, video tapes, and reel-to-reel recordings
*Assisting the Artistic Director with research relating to the collections
*Retrieve materials from off-site and in-house archival storage; prepare items for transport, including packing and shipping, or deliver them for researcher access and staff use
*Advise on relevant grant opportunities and assist in drafting supporting copy and documentation as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
*Hold a Library Science, Information Science, Art History, or related degree, or the equivalent experience and expertise
*Hands-on experience in processing archival collections and archival management
*Knowledge of archival and preservation needs of a variety of materials, including paper documents and materials, photographs, audio-visuals, and digital born assets
*Demonstrated flexibility and responsiveness in adapting to the evolving needs of a small nonprofit organization with limited archival infrastructure and resources
*Minimum of 3 years of experience in archival work and management, including experience in file and document organization and management, electronic databases and documents, and database management
*Knowledge of contemporary American and European experimental music and visual arts a plus
