Joseph Goto (1916–1994) was a sculptor and art educator. Born in Hilo, Hawaiʻi, Goto learned to weld while working as a civilian for Army Engineers. Soon after the attack on Pearl Harbor - he transformed his skill—a residue of war—into an artistic practice. In 1952, the Museum of Modern Art acquired his sculpture Organic Form, a milestone in a five-decade career spanning drawing, painting, and sculpture, from intimate tabletop works to large-scale public commissions.
