Event attendees are invited to visit the South Street Seaport Museum’s landmark exhibition, The Promise of Liberty: Words That Shaped a Nation, as well as the long-term exhibition, Maritime City. Following the exhibitions, attendees will have the opportunity to explore the Museum’s Archives and Special Collections storage rooms and learn about the Seaport Museum’s archival collections and institutional archive projects. Museum staff and interns will provide an overview and show the projects they are working on including ephemera, documents, photographs, and institutional records.
This is an in-person event limited to 12 A.R.T. Members & Non-Members. Registration is non-transferable. Please note that you MUST reserve a ticket in advance online in order to attend this event. In the occasion that the event is sold out, we highly recommend joining the waitlist. An ART staff member will reach out to you if a spot becomes available. Unless you've been given permission, please do not show up at the event without registering.

Located in the heart of the historic Seaport District, the South Street Seaport Museum preserves and interprets the history of New York as a great port city. Since 1967, the Museum has connected visitors with the city's rich maritime heritage through exhibitions, collections, historic buildings, a working nineteenth-century letterpress print shop, a maritime reference library, and one of the nation's most significant fleets of historic ships. Known as "Where New York Begins," the Museum brings together history, art, culture, and the waterfront to tell the story of the city through the lens of its enduring relationship with the sea.
Meeting Location:
Please meet at the A.A. Thomson & Co. building at 213 Water Street. Staff will meet the attendees at the entrance. This location is fully accessible.
Accessibility Note: The archives we will tour afterwards are located on the 4th floor of another historic building which requires climbing stairs.
Directions to South Street Seaport Museum:
By subway: Take the A, C, 2, 3, J, Z, 4, or 5 train to Fulton Street.
By bus: Take the M-15 SBS or M-15 to Fulton Street.
By water: The NYC Ferry, and New York Waterway provide service to Pier 11. The Staten Island Ferry provides services to Whitehall Terminal.
Parking: Parking lots can be found at Front and John Streets, as well as 294 Pearl Street.
