Introducing the Archivematica Digital Preservation System

This event is sponsored by the Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO).

This session is designed to provide an introduction to the open-source Archivematica digital preservation system. The session will include a brief overview of digital preservation, background information about the Archivematica project, and a software demonstration. There will be a strong emphasis on how different institutions might have different preservation requirements. Participants will be encouraged to ask questions and share information about their own use cases and institutional challenges. The intended audience is anyone who has responsibility for or interest in digital preservation.

Speaker Evelyn McLellan

Evelyn McLellan is a graduate of the University of British Columbia's Master of Archival Studies program (1997) and has over 10 years of experience as an archivist and records information analyst at a number of organizations including the City of Vancouver Archives and the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia. Currently, Evelyn is project manager for Artefactual System's Archivematica implementation and digital preservation strategy projects.

Evelyn has worked as co-investigator on the International Research on Permanent Authentic Records in Electronic Systems (InterPARES) Project and as Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia's School of Library, Archival and Information Studies. Evelyn has written several articles and delivered a number of presentations and workshops on the topics of digital preservation and open technologies for archives.
