Join us for a tour of the current exhibition at Newark Public Library (NPL), Newark '74: From Rebellion to Excellence (on view until January 18th, 2025) and some of NPL's special collections, including the Charles F. Cummings New Jersey Information Center, the James Brown African American Room, and the Philip Roth Personal Library. The tour will be led by Yesenia Lopez, Director of the New Jersey Hispanic Research & Information Center. 


This is an in-person event limited to 20 people. Registration is non-transferable. Please note that you MUST reserve a ticket in advance online in order to attend this event. In the occasion that the event is sold out, we highly recommend joining the waitlist. An ART staff member will reach out to you if a spot becomes available. Unless you've been given permission, please do not show up at the event without registering.

Traveling to Newark Public Library from New York City:

PATH trains from World Trade Center (WTC) to Newark (NWK) and from the 33rd Street line (via Hoboken; requires transfer at Journal Square to a Newark-bound PATH train) depart every 20 minutes on Saturdays. Please see the PATH webpage for Weekend Schedules for more information about departure and arrival times between WTC or 33rd Street and Newark. 

PATH train fare is $2.75 each way, and can be paid via a PATH/SmartLink tickets or tap to pay using a credit/debit card or smart device.

New Jersey Transit (NJT) is another option traveling from NYC to Newark. Here is a link providing departure times for NJT heading from New York Penn Station to Newark Penn Station on Saturday morning. The 10:57AM North Jersey Coast #7237, 11:07AM North Jersey Coast #7637, and 11:14AM Northeast Corridor #7837 trains will get you to Newark Penn Station with enough time to get to the Library for our 12PM tour start time.

NJT tickets can be purchased at the station or via the NJ TRANSIT app.

The walk from the Newark PATH/NJT station is about 20 minutes. You can also take the #72 bus (Paterson via Bloomfield Ave.) from Newark Penn Station that goes along Raymond Blvd., to Washington Street at Harriet Tubman Square (which takes about 15 minutes), or take a rideshare from the station (about 5-10 minutes).
