About this Event
In this course, you will learn the basics of managing image collections using Adobe Photoshop, Bridge, and Lightroom.
You will learn the similarities and differences between the programs and how to decide which program to use for specific tasks, including: batch renaming files in Bridge, building hierarchical keyword lists to rapidly tag images in Lightroom, and how to search and filter results using metadata.
You will learn differences between different image file formats and how to automate file type conversions using Photoshop actions. This is an introductory class, no previous knowledge of imaging is required.
About our facilitator:
Michael Bevans is Project Manager for Archival Storytelling at The New York Times, responsible for the digitization of over four million historical photographs in The New York Times’ morgue.
Michael has worked as a digitization specialist and information manager since 1998, starting as a scanning technician at Cornell University’s Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art. He has installed imaging systems and trained personnel at a wide range of museums and libraries, including the Library at the American Museum of Natural History, the Philadelphia Free Library, and the Herbarium at The New York Botanical Garden. Michael designs standardized imaging processes to ensure consistency, improve efficiency, and maintain image quality.
