Mentoring Program

The Mentoring Program is under the jurisdiction of the Director of the Membership Committee and the Mentoring Program co-Chairs.

Designed to nurture students and emerging professionals, this program brings mentees who are interested in furthering their professional knowledge together with members who have diverse professional expertise and practical working experience.

The co-Chairs match participants and provide contact information, program guidelines, and suggested activities to the pair via email. With the program guidelines as a foundation, participants determine their expectations and how to best structure a meaningful and productive exchange. All Mentoring Program participants must be current A.R.T. members.

A.R.T advises participants to stay involved for an academic semester, and encourages the pair to meet twice. Certainly, this relationship can be extended if both participants agree.

Mentors may suggest coursework, conferences, or workshops to help their mentee achieve his or her career goals. Mentors may also provide guided tours of their institution or provide resources such as publications, sample finding aids, and policies for additional reading. Mentees can pose questions about their mentor’s education and career path, or request a resume and cover letter review. Please note that the program is not an internship.

If you would like to sign up as a mentee, or are interested in giving back to the profession as a mentor, please email the co-Chairs at mentoring@nycarchivists.org. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions. We look forward to welcoming you!
