AfroCROWD Wikimedia Oral History (May 30, 2018)
Intern to pilot an AfroCROWD Wikimedia Oral History Project aimed at beginning an archive of oral history captures from activists and community members in marginalized ethnic and linguistic communities of African descent, with the intention of making these stories free and accessible to Wikimedia users and useful in the open source context. Applicant should be interested in movements within the African Diaspora and histories of people of African Descent within the American context as well as in the global context.
1. Assist in the implementation of oral history project, in processing interviews, and collections management.
2. Transcribe oral history interviews.
3. Complete special projects and perform other related duties as assigned
4. Lead an oral history capture and seminar
5. Work with AfroCROWD and partners to develop an oral history archiving plan
Current or recent enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in the field of History, English, Oral History, Library Sciences, Communications, Government or a related field, or professional in a similar field. Knowledge of research techniques, methods, and procedures. Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including a personal computer, a scanner, and a variety of computer software. Excellent interpersonal skills. Possession of a valid driver’s license is ideal (role may include minor travel outside of metro area).
Preferred: Graduate student in the field of History, English, Library Sciences, Communications, Oral History, Government or a related field. Experience in working with historic preservation and/or oral history programs. MID JUNE - END OF AUGUST 2018 // 10 - 15 Hours/week (approximate). $800 stipend. Application deadline is June 8th, 2018.
