The Westchester County Historical Society is seeking an ambitious and collaborative individual to serve as a Project Archivist to assist with the completion of a federally-funded grant project, Access to Historical Records. This one-year project will allow for the digitization and on-line accessibility of the McDonald Papers, hand-written transcriptions of 407 interviews with participants and eyewitnesses to the Revolutionary War.

Working with the WCHS librarian, the Project Archivist will be responsible for scanning the collections, creating metadata, annotating the oral history interviews, and uploading the digitized collections, finding aid, and index to on-line databases. Qualified candidates will have experience processing archival materials, appropriate knowledge and practiced application of archival theory and best practices, and experience with archival management software, such as CONTENTdm and PastPerfect. Knowledge of Westchester history is a plus.

This position will include periods of concentrated scanning, as well as moving and lifting some heavy over-size cartons.

The position is salaried, four days a week, 30 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, with some additional time needed for public programs.


Education and Experience Requirements: M.A. or M.L.I.S. in Archives, Library Science, Museum Studies, or related field with formal training in archives management and preservation or commensurate experience.
