CONSULTANT / ARCHIVIST, NON-PROFIT, NEW YORK

A planning development organization with a collection of over 25,000 books, reports, etc. needs a top to bottom analysis of the costs and labor required to catalogue and (selectively) digitize its collection. The consultant will be responsible for writing up recommendations in a final report which the organization can use in its search for funding for this project.

The consultant’s report should include the following:

  • The actual size of each section of the archive (books, reports, primary documents)
  • What extra storage equipment needs to be purchased
  • What cataloguing software should be bought
  • How long it will take to catalogue each section
  • Where the work should begin
  • Timetable for cataloguing each section
  • What the labor requirement will be for cataloguing
  • Labor costs for cataloguing
  • Which parts of the archive should be digitized
  • Labor requirement for digitization work
  • How much it would cost to outsource the digitization
  • Any other considerations which the consultant feels are relevant to the project

Qualification requirements:

  • MLS and 3-5 years recent experience with projects of a similar size. Must possess thorough knowledge of the archiving process and be up-to-date on cataloguing software and costing of the work involved. Full-time or part-time schedule possible. Good time management and communication skills desired.
