Description: This is a part-time 19 hours per week grant-funded position. To assist the Archives Manager in the management of the College Archives; to administratively support the Documentary Heritage Program Grant/New York State Archives objectives in further documenting the College and the South Bronx Community. Position ends June 30, 2008. No benefits. Salary is $15-18/hour, depending on experience. This is a paid position only. Internship course credit is available if applicable. Hours are flexible. Hostos Community College is conveniently located 15 minutes from Grand Central Terminal on the IRT 2, 4, and 5 express trains and several bus lines. Qualifications: Ideal candidate would be a current graduate student or recent master’s level graduate in archives, library science or a history-based program who wants hands-on experience in a dynamic library/archives setting. Interest in working with the diverse Hostos Community College faculty and students desirable. Spanish language skills strongly preferred but not required. Familiarity with basic archival standards required. Commitment to providing service and support to the College Archives; proficiency in basic computer applications (word processing, Excel, database management); ability to work collegially with students, faculty and library personnel; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to work independently. Familiarity with electronic information systems including Web and laptop computer technology, OPACs, and Online databases and information systems is desirable. Successful candidate will work with recent faculty donations and the Museum of Contemporary Hispanic Art (MoCHA Collection), among others.
