Pro Libra Associates - Temporary Project Archivist

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work independently on special projects to improve access to archives and ensure preservation of records in all forms.
  • Capture, arrange and describe archival records with reference aids such as accession lists, indexes, guides, bibliographies, abstracts and microfilmed document copies.
  • Respond to reference inquiries and maintain a record of these activities
  • Survey and appraise records from New York and national field offices.
  • Carry out records retention and disposition procedures.
  • Digitize archival collections and create metadata on electronic records management databases.
  • Identify appropriate standards or best practices to be adopted for projects.
  • Manage workflow and monitor operation.
  • Supervise student interns when necessary.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1-3 years work experience in a library, archives or information center with a master degree in American history, library studies, or information science required.
  • Certificate or training in archival and records management with an understanding in basic archival principles and practices and/or work experience preferred.
  • Must be detail oriented and organized with strong written and oral communication skills and strong research skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with computer applications with the Microsoft Office suite, digital imaging software, and InMagic automation applications.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, including some supervisory skill.
  • Must be able to lift 35 - 40 pound record center containers.
