The Piccirilli Family of Italian Stone Carvers
Riversiders and friends have a unique opportunity on Sunday, October 19, 2008! They will be able to learn about the Piccirilli family of Italian stone carvers who created hundreds of sculptures at The Riverside Church. These works of art, produced in the Bronx, grace both the interior and exterior of our building. These artisans were also responsible for the famous lions on the steps of the New York Public Library, the Washington Square Arch at the foot of Fifth Avenue, the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC as well as hundreds of other sculptures across America.

‘Freeing the Angel from the Stone’ Lecture

"Freeing the Angel from the Stone," a new book by Jerry and Eleanor Koffler, features the Piccirilli sculpture in New York City. Join us in the choir stalls after Sunday Worship on October 19 for a presentation by the Kofflers as well as a special tour of the chancel screen led by our own Mace Anderson. Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase after the tour. This event is sponsored by The Riverside Church Archives and the Sunday Tour Leaders.
